Who I Am:

Winter Beach Picture

My name is Kristin Smith, and I have been teaching for twelve years. I currently teach 9th and 10th grade English. I am an innovative, dedicated educator with a commitment to helping all students succeed. I have a passion for teaching, and I could not imagine a career in any other field.

Outside of teaching, I am also a writer. I am a teacher consultant with the Eastern Michigan Writing Project . I have “won” National Novel Writing Month twice so far, and I might go for it again this year. I also write poetry in addition to fiction, and it is my dream to one day publish a novel or a collection of poems. I also enjoy spending time with my husband, our three children, and our two dogs.

Yesterday, at the C3WP Mid Year Meeting, we were asked to reflect on how our understandings have changed since we became involved with this program. Mine turned into a reflection on the structure and impact of effective professional development. Here is what I wrote and shared with my colleagues there: At first, I thought that argument writing and the C3WP focus on it was a bit like
